Ice Cliff Dynamics of Debris-Covered Trakarding Glacier in the Rolwaling Region, Nepal Himalaya

چکیده
Ice cliffs can act as “hot spots” for melt on debris-covered glaciers and promote local glacier mass loss. Repeat high-resolution remote-sensing data are therefore required to monitor the role of ice cliff dynamics in Here we analyze aerial photogrammetry acquired during 2007, 2018, 2019 post-monsoon seasons delineate morphology, distribution, temporal changes across Trakarding Glacier eastern Nepal Himalaya. We generate an inventory from 2018 precise terrain data, with accounting 4.7 6.1% area, respectively. observe large surface lowering (>2.0 m a −1 ) where there is denser distribution cliffs. also track survival, formation, disappearance 2019, find that ∼15% total area replaced by new Furthermore, overall predominance northwest-facing cliffs, although do spatial heterogeneities aspect variance (ice face similar/various directions). Many formed stagnant middle sections glacier, coincident water drainage englacial conduit intake observations. This relationship between hydrological system suggests these supraglacial systems play significant formation.

Quantifying ice cliff evolution with multi-temporal point clouds on the debris-covered Khumbu Glacier, Nepal
Measurements of glacier ice cliff evolution are sparse, but where they do exist, they indicate that such areas of exposed ice contribute a disproportionate amount of melt to the glacier ablation budget. We used Structure from Motion photogrammetry with Multi-View Stereo to derive 3-D point clouds for nine ice cliffs on Khumbu Glacier, Nepal (in November 2015, May 2016 and October 2016). By diff...
متن کاملModelling glacier change in the Everest region, Nepal Himalaya
In this study, we apply a glacier mass balance and ice redistribution model to examine the sensitivity of glaciers in the Everest region of Nepal to climate change. Highresolution temperature and precipitation fields derived from gridded station data, and bias-corrected with independent station observations, are used to drive the historical model from 1961 to 2007. The model is calibrated again...

متن کاملA physically based 3-Dmodel of ice cliff evolution over debris-covered glaciers
We use high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) from unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) surveys to document the evolution of four ice cliffs on the debris-covered tongue of Lirung Glacier, Nepal, over one ablation season. Observations show that out of four cliffs, three different patterns of evolution emerge: (i) reclining cliffs that flatten during the ablation season; (ii) stable cliffs tha...
